THE SUMMITS
Our many adventures, some of which are related on this site, have taken us to hundreds of hill and mountain summits. Many can be conveniently grouped to form specific challenges that we have set ourselves. We have therefore constructed listings for readers, and to also show our progress against these differing challenges. Also see Allen, Tetley, Grizzly & Shaun's blogs, for more details starting from 2009.
The
Wainwright Fells and Wainwright Outlying Fells
These listings are definitive as per Alfred Wainwright's seven
pictorial guides to the Lakeland Fells and his further book of
the Outlying Fells of Lakeland. As well as a single list of the
214 Wainwright Fells, we have also provided seven separate lists
of the fells in each book.
The Birkett
Fells
This list too, is definitive taken from Bill Birkett's book
"Complete Lakeland Fells", in which he lists the 541
summits in the Lake District over 1000ft (305m).
The Howgill
Fells
Intially this list was drawn up
from Alfred Wainwright's book of 'Walks on the Howgill Fells'. As
we have explored them with Dad and Uncle Eric however, more
summits have been added both within the main Howgill massive and
to the north side of the Borrowdale valley. This is therefore a
comprehensive listing, but not necessarily definitive.
The
Yorkshire Dales Fells
We started with a list of 75 summits that Dad found elsewhere on
the Internet, and was the basis for our exploration of this area
with Dad and Uncle Bob. As walks have been devised to reach these
summits in some cases others have had to be crossed to reach
them, or others were noted from the maps and detours made to take
them in. Currently our listing stands at 114. Again we can say
that this is comprehensive, but not necessarily definitive.
Indeed Dad and Uncle Bob may find a few more to add on in time.
The North
Pennine Fells
Thanks
to Go4awalk.com and Wikepedia we have devised a list of 87
summits, that form the basis for our exploration of this area
with Dad and Uncle Bob. As we progress more summits may be
discovered and the list may lengthen over time. This is therefore a comprehensive listing,
but not necessarily definitive.

And finally, you will note that the fell names are colour coded. This is to give and indication of its height, as follows -
| Green | below 1000ft |
| Brown | from 1000ft to 1999ft |
| Orange | from 2000ft to 2999ft |
| Red | over 3000ft |
